HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER

There are two levels of NARSC membership. Each level has its own set of requirements and responsibilities that must be met in order to become and remain a member of our coalition.

Voting Members:

Voting members must be a national animal rescue organization that meet the following criteria:

  • Must be national in scope and provide significant resources for animals affected by a disaster
  • Must show proof of a five year history of successfully responding for animals affected by a disaster (eg. Two letters of recommendation from different communities worked with – preferably from agencies having jurisdictional authority – and two sponsor letters from current NARSC members)
  • Must have a broad national funding base
  • Must be a nonprofit under IRS regulations and provide a determination letter with your application
  • Must be law-abiding with no record of “legal decisions” jeopardizing your nonprofit status or any record of infractions working with local jurisdictions related to your animal-related disaster work
  • Must provide training and credentialing of your members to conform with NIMS and NARSC approved systems
  • Must have sufficient leadership and funding to allow for participation in all NARSC meetings and committee work
  • Must comply with NARSC Code of Conduct.

General Members:

General members must be national animal welfare organizations that meet the following criteria:

  • Must be national in scope and provide significant resources for animals affected by a disaster
  • Must have a broad national funding base
  • Must be a nonprofit under IRS regulations and provide a determination letter with your application
  • Must be law-abiding with no record of “legal decisions” jeopardizing your nonprofit status or any record of infractions working with local jurisdictions related to your animal-related disaster work
  • Have been in the animal rescue field for less than five years at a national level, or
    • Do not meet the qualifications of Voting membership, or
    • Are not interested in Voting membership
  • Must remain at that level for a minimum of two years before applying for status as a Voting Member
  • Must abide by the NARSC Code of Conduct.
